Travellers are ''looking to save money''

22 May 2009

Finding ways to budget when booking a holiday is becoming increasingly popular, according to one expert.

Managing director for Holiday-Rentals.co.uk Courtney Wylie has said that holidaymakers are seeking various ways to cut travel expenses, the most popular of which is a reduction in transport costs.

According to research by Holiday-Rentals, the average family has spent £545 on transport to and from their holiday destination in 2009, a reduction of more than £80 since 2007.

Ms Wylie said: "When it came to ways in which [people were] keeping costs down, we found avoiding popular destinations came [in at] number eight. People are more looking to save money on travel and accommodation."

The research also showed that the overall cost of travel has dropped since 2007 with the average family holiday now costing £2,092, a reduction of £259.

Ms Wylie went on to suggest that "you can get good deals by searching out the best flights and then find accommodation separately".
