Fes could become more popular

Fes could be more popular with direct flights

18 December 2008

The introduction of direct flights from the UK to Fes will make the Moroccan city more popular than ever with adventurous holidaymakers, experts have claimed.

Earlier this year, Morocco''s Tourism Ministry reported that the number of overseas visitors heading to the country is growing by an 11 per cent year-on-year rate, with the UK behind only neighbouring France and Spain as the north African country''s largest source of tourists.

And this trend looks set to continue as the country benefits from affordable direct flights from all parts of the UK and from the introduction of specialist travel insurance for north Africa, with Orion Trek Voyages'' Morocco specialist Jane Folliott predicting that Fes will be one of the biggest winners.

"Fes has always been popular as one of the places to visit in Morocco, but has been overshadowed in recent years by Marrakech - accessibility being a big influence on this," she explained.

"Hopefully direct flights to Fes will help restimulate interest in this city and the surrounding areas of this region more."

One of the highlights of Fes is its World Heritage-listed medina, which is surrounded by numerous back alleys and historic mosques.
