Few travellers want to stop flying

Travellers ''unwilling to change flying habits''

06 November 2008

British people may be increasingly concerned about the environment but a poll suggests that few are willing to change the amount they fly.

Research commissioned by noise reduction technology company Camcon Technology shows that 74 per cent of people are worried about issues such as climate change and noise and air pollution.

However, just 22 per cent of those asked said this had had an impact on the number of flights they take.

Danny Chapchal, chief executive of Camcon, said: "The majority of the UK population is evidently concerned about the environment but, rather than altering their travelling habits, people expect airline operators and aircraft manufacturers to reduce aviation’s environmental impact.

"To protect the environment, the aviation industry needs to examine the technologies that are now available to reduce carbon emissions and help decrease the noise from engine jets, fans and landing gear."

According to the research, women are more worried about the environment than their male counterparts with 82 per cent saying they were concerned about green issues.

Ecotourism becoming increasingly popular, with the number of holidaymakers opting for destinations with cultural and natural attractions on the rise.
