Venice has a number of galleries
Art deco exhibition comes to Venice
10 October 2008The Italian State Tourism Board has highlighted an art exhibition as one of the main reasons to visit Venice in the coming months.
Famous for its canals, Venice is also home to a host of art galleries and exhibition centres and until January 4th, the city''s Museo Fortuny is hosting the first exhibit of the fashion illustrator, George Barbier.
On display at the museum is his collection of historical art deco work, showing the evolution of the artist.
Barbier was famous for such works as the Black Panther symbol for the fashion house, Cartier.
The Italian Tourist Board says: "The exhibition is rich of historical references and it includes a section on theatre and cinema with sketches of costume and sets."
Although only living to the age of 50, Barbier became famous when at the age of 29 when he opened his first exhibition, leading him into a career of creating ballet costumes, and eventually onto couture fashion illustrations.
