Golf fans on holiday in Hong Kong this November can enjoy the landmark event of the 50th UBS Hong Kong Open.

The famous sporting contest kicked off with a launch party at a top nightspot in the city last Thursday.

Known as the "jewel in the crown" of Asian Golf, the event has a history stretching back further than all other tournaments in the region, which will tempt sports enthusiasts taking flights to Hong Kong.

All the golf is played at the Hong Kong Golf Club situated in Sheung Shui, New Territories.

The tournament is played over a total of 72 holes over four rounds, with the field cut to the leading 70 players after the first three rounds.

It was added to the European Tour in 2001, with Spain''s Jose Maria Olazabal winning with a score of 22 under par, a record that stands to this day.

Last year''s open was won by his countryman Miguel Angel Jimenez, who finished on 265 strokes, 15 strokes under par.
