Russian man eats wife''s passport

08 October 2008

Passports are ordinarily used by eager travellers to allow them to jet from one country to another, but one woman''s passport was recently used for a very different purpose by her ex-husband.

During an argument with his former spouse, Russian man Ivan Volokov tore her passport into pieces and proceeded to eat every bit of it.

The unusual meal came to an unhappy end for the 31-year-old man, however, when he was arrested by Russian police in the city of Nizhny Novgorod.

Authorities charged Mr Volokov with destroying official documents and threatening behaviour and the man is now facing time in jail for his stunt.

The police believe that he was trying to destroy any evidence which proved that his ex-wife had any legal right to stay living in the former married couple''s home.

It is not yet known whether the woman has applied for a new passport or plans to use the excuse ''my ex-husband ate it'' next time she goes on holiday.
