Wine tourism is growing in popularity

New World destinations are ideal for wine tourists

New World countries such as New Zealand offer some of the best opportunities for wine tourism, wine experts have said.

Oenophiles, Neil Phillips and Chris Scott said that New Zealand was one the world''s best destinations for wine enthusiasts as it combines great scenery with a successful and developing wine industry.

Mr Phillips said: "One of the key places to go to is New Zealand. It''s been phenomenal, particularly the development of the Sauvignon Blanc in the Marlborough region."

America and Australia were also recommended as ideal holiday locations for wine tourists as they are both established wine producing countries

Mr Scott said:" The New World has the best set up for wine tourism and America and Australia are both very good places for wine tourism."

Research by winemakers Montana found that 38 per cent of people would like to visit a vineyard and that 27 per cent of people have ten or more bottles of wine in their home.
