Farmstay holidays are benefitting a struggling farming industry
Brits change holiday habits
18 September 2008British people are now taking lots of shorter breaks, spread throughout the year rather than the traditional two-week holiday, claims VisitBritain.
According to the national tourism agency, the evidence in the change of holiday habits is the fact that research by responsibletravel.com revealed that interest in UK farmstay holidays has more than doubled in the past year.
Sian Brenchley, a spokesperson for VisitBritain, said: "Having such a wide variety of holiday experiences in Britain now is certainly encouraging Brits to take another look at holidaying at home if they haven''t already."
The environmental and financial benefits of farmstay holidays are encouraging more Brits to take part in the domestic breaks, claims Ms Brenchley.
"In the current economic climate we are hearing that Brits are taking another look at holidaying at home and are being pleasantly surprised by the range and types of holidays on offer - farmstays certainly fit in with this," she said.
According to responsibletravel.com, the popularity of farmstay holidays reflects a growing trend as more and more UK farmers are turning to travel and tourism ''agro tourism'' as a means of subsidising incomes.
