Some jewelry is now banned at Edinburgh airport

Passengers get a warning from the fashion police

17 September 2008

Holidaymakers passing through Edinburgh airport have been warned about their fashion accessories, according to reports.

Jewelry shaped like knuckledusters, buckle-knives and replica guns are just some of the banned bling confiscated by officers and BAA security at the hub this year.

Inspector Gary Dickson, from Lothian and Borders Police airport police unit, said: "My officers have been called to several incidents recently at the terminal''s central search area where articles worn by passengers have been identified as modified weapons and led to the police being involved."

With security being enhanced at many airports around the country, passengers are being reminded not to wear potentially dangerous or offensive clothing and accessories when travelling.

"We want people to enjoy their travelling experience at Edinburgh airport, but in this era of heightened security, passengers would be ill-advised to wear or carry items which resemble weapons," Mr Dickson added.

Edinburgh is Scotland''s busiest airport, handling 886,027 passengers last month.
