Romance in Rome

17 September 2008

Holidaymakers looking to pop the question to their loved one should take a break abroad to Rome, according to reports.

The Trevi Fountain in Rome has just been listed by the Flight Centre as the top place in the world to propose in.

"Being in one of the most romantic cities on earth is bound to get you a positive response," the company notes.

"Whilst there are scores of beautiful city squares and fountains, the famous Trevi Fountain tops the list of places to propose."

Surrounded by picturesque Italian buildings and restaurants, the destination is perfect for those wanting to find somewhere out of the ordinary to propose marriage to their lovers.

Local folklore has it that those who throw a coin into the fountain will one day return to the city of romance.

Research by moneysupermarket.com revealed that almost one in ten people end up marrying their holiday romance.
