Many workers claim to be addicted to their mobile devices
Technology could interrupt holidays
15 September 2008With more employees using mobile telephones and wireless email devices it is increasingly likely they will intrude on their holidays, claims MORE TH>N.
Research by MORE TH>N revealed that constant interruption from work was the biggest cause of holiday stress for office workers this year while modern technologies were blamed for the disruption and stress that ruined the summer breaks of over one third of holidaymakers.
Carmel McCarthy, PR manager for MORE TH>N, said: "Technology has opened up the doors and allowed people to be contacted on holiday. People forget that the most precious time is the two weeks they take off with their family so they should leave the technology at home."
According to Ms McCarthy, firms would prefer that their employees enjoyed their holiday as it is more likely they will be more productive when they return to work.
"Go and enjoy it because companies will appreciate them coming back refreshed and able to offer 110 per cent, rather than 70 per cent if they''ve been contacted already on their holiday," she added.
According to research carried out for 3 UK, 14 per cent of people feel it''s essential to be contacted by phone or email because they want to feel in control of work duties.
