10 September 2008Holidaymakers planning on going to Bulgaria this month should consider postponing as the country has been experiencing natural disasters, it has been reported.
The Bulgarian Interior Ministry took the decision to declare a state of emergency after Samokov, a town in Sofia Province in the southwest of the country, was ravaged by a fire.
It started on September 7th in the Mechkata area on the bank of Iskur Dam in the foothills of Rila Mountain where locals were soon evacuated.
At the moment there is no threat to Samokov municipality population and property, according to the ministry''s statement but holidaymakers are being urged to reconsider their plans to the country.
Due to a long hot summer, people living in Bulgaria have faced difficult conditions with the municipality of Lovech in the north of the country has introduced water rationing after a local water source dried up.
Around eight million people visited Bulgaria in 2007, an increase from six million in the previous year, according to reports.
