Cost of a holiday on the rise

Cost of a holiday on the rise

01 September 2008

According to website travelsupermarket.com the cost of going on holiday has increased in the past 12 months.

The lack of last minute deals and the weakness of the pound against the euro have contributed to an increase of up to £400 for the average family holiday. Steeper fuel costs linked to the soaring price of oil - for both jet fuel and petrol - has also had a dramatic impact. According to Travel Weekly in the region of five million may decide to book their 2009 holiday before Christmas in order to take advantage of the best market deals.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert at TravelSupermarket.com, said: "Last summer there was a lot of late availability at good prices. This year there is less availability because they have cut back the stock plus add into that additional fuel costs then the prices seem a lot higher."

The vast majority of customers will book everything, including holiday insurance, early in order to guarantee that they can holiday exactly where they want, rather than having to settle with what''s left.
