01 September 2008Research from Which? Holidays suggests that families booking now for a holiday in summer next year could save up to £1,000.
The consumer magazine tracked a series of holidays over the course of a year and found that prices gradually increased as the months rolled on, but they were at their cheapest during the autumn, almost a full year before the holiday would even take place. A holiday to Majorca booked through First Choice ballooned by over £1,000 in the space of a few months.
Lorna Cowan, editor of Which? Holiday, said: "Our research shows that booking at the right time can save you a small fortune, but confusingly the "right time" isn''t the same for every type of holiday."
Whereas families wanting to go to specific destinations are advised to book both their holiday and their holiday insurance in the next few weeks, people who have more flexible ideas may benefit from good deals nearer the time.
