27 August 2008

The truth may soon be out there for visitors to San Clemente in Chile as the town will be opening the country''s first UFO trail, according to reports.

Located 240km south of the capital of Santiago, San Clemente is known as something of a hotspot for ''extraterrestrial activity''.

The town''s 30km UFO trail takes in a site that was reportedly once visited by alien craft and includes a number of lookout points where visitors can scan the skies for flying saucers.

Oscar Santelices, director of the service, told the AFP: "We support the creation of this UFO trail because experts say that it is a hot zone for watchers."

According to researchers on extraterrestrial phenomena, hundreds of UFO sightings have been reported in San Clemente since the mid-1990s.

One of the most popular spots in the area is El Enladrillado, a 2,300-metre-high area of volcanic blocks that is claimed by some to be a UFO landing pad.
