The race will be held at the Marina Bay circuit

''Overwhelming demand'' for Singapore GP

03 July 2008

The organisers of the Singapore Grand Prix, to be held in September, have announced that there has been "overwhelming demand" for tickets to the event, with 92 per cent of the original allocation already sold.

There is a reason behind the substantial interest in the race – it will be the first ever Formula One Grand Prix to be held at night.

Motorsport fans hoping to make it to the event who have not yet acquired a ticket should not despair, as the organisers announced that they plan to make changes to the course to make more tickets available.

One grandstand will be extended and an entirely new stand will be built on Esplanade Drive, meaning that an extra 1,600 seats will go on sale on July 4th.

Passes granting access to these new stands for all three days of the event – which will take place on September 26th-28th – will be priced at S$698 (£259).

Following two days of practice and qualification, the official race will get underway at 20:00 on September 28th and will consist of 61 laps.

The next Grand Prix on the Formula One calendar will be held at Silverstone on July 6th, followed by races in Germany, Hungary, Spain, Belgium and Italy before the tournament arrives in Singapore.
