UK''s best and worst timekeepers revealed

02 July 2008

Flightontime.info has compiled data from the Civil Aviation Authority covering operations at the UK''s major airports and identified the best and worst airlines in terms of punctuality.

The statistics show that Eastern Airways was the most punctual scheduled airline in the first three months of 2008, with 89 per cent of its flights landing or departing on time and an average delay of under seven minutes.

Of all the 35 scheduled airlines studied, three major players – British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates – were the worst performers, with average delays ranging from 24 minutes to 33 minutes.

In the low-cost airline sector, seven airlines were monitored and bmibaby was found to be the most punctual, followed closely by Ryanair and Flybe, with flyglobespan at the bottom of the list.

The statistics covered a number of key routes, including London to Edinburgh, the busiest domestic route in the UK, which was served most punctually by easyJet in the first quarter of the year.

All of the UK''s major airports were covered by the research, including Heathrow, where Gulf Air was the most punctual scheduled airline, and Manchester, which was best served by Euromanx.
