Aussie goat museum could be world's first
07 May 2008A new attraction that will open in Queensland, Australia next year is set to be the world's first museum dedicated entirely to goats.
The museum, which will also include a goat-racing hall of fame, will be based in the outback town of Barcaldine in north-east Australia.
A committee that has been formed to oversee the development of the museum is attempting to secure $300,000 (£145,000) of government funding and sponsorship, ABC News reports.
Spokesman John de Groot said that, as far as the committee is aware, the goat museum will be the only establishment of its kind in the world.
He added: "I'm almost certain as well that there's no goat racing hall of fame anywhere out there in the universe except for what's proposed at Barcaldine.
"It's an acknowledgement of a wonderful animal that's just been so important to so many people for such a long time."
The first weekend in May saw a goat race meeting held in Barcaldine as part of the Tree of Knowledge festival. Organisers of the event said they plan to make the town Australia's 'goat racing capital'.
