First Choice: Universal package holiday in the past
02 May 2008Tour operator First Choice has claimed that the 'one size fits all' package holiday that was once popular with family groups is now a thing of the past.
A spokeswoman for the company said that the travel industry now consists of a wide variety of customer types and the package holiday sector has adapted to reflect this.
Commenting on particular destinations that are popular among people on package holidays, the representative said that customers show an interest in a mix of "traditional" hotspots such as Spain and Cyprus and more adventurous long-haul destinations such as Mexico and Cuba.
According to research recently carried out by Halifax, 2.5 million Brits take a package holiday to an "exotic" location every year.
Once they reach their destination, however, British holidaymakers appear to take an insular approach to their trip, with an average of just seven hours spent outside hotel complexes and resorts.
Almost three quarters (70 per cent) of the respondents to the survey said they do not even visit modern attractions such as water or theme parks.
