UK travel appealing to holidaymakers
15 April 2008Many Brits are considering travelling in the UK as opposed to going to foreign destinations, according to the British Resorts & Destinations Association (BRADA).
The UK Tourism Survey 2006 found that 79.2 million domestic holidays were taken that year and were worth a total of £13.6 billion in spending.
Peter Hampson, director of BRADA, said: "We're not talking about people abandoning foreign holidays en masse, we're talking about people thinking twice about whether to take two foreign holidays or maybe have a UK holiday instead."
"It's not a mass exodus but people are considering it," he said.
He explained that carbon footprints are having an effect on all aspects of the UK domestic life and that this was evident just by taking "a quick glance at the typical content of mainstream UK advertising".
The British Resorts & Destinations Association was originally set up and run as a lobbying and advisory body, but after its reorganisation in 1993, the association expanded to include a wide variety of services such as cost effective national advertising campaigns.
