UK travellers 'attracted by food'

Those travelling for the food and not necessarily the sights are increasing in numbers from the UK, as Brits gain an appetite for the more exotic around the world.

According to a new poll by travel website Expedia.co.uk, out of the 22,000 people surveyed, more than half (51 per cent) had visited France's Champagne region for the champagne, and three per cent had gone as far as Colombia to taste the coffee.

Meanwhile those looking for feta cheese and olives visited Greece as another popular destination.

Alison Couper, communications director for Expedia.co.uk, said: "In the past, Brits have been unfairly branded as unadventurous with their culinary choices abroad, so the research findings underline that Brits are adventurous when travelling."

If Kalamata olives are on the list of things to taste from its source, try heading to Kalamata, Greece, which boasts an airport, railyway terminus, major sea port and bus station as well as beautiful beaches between meals.
