Gold Coast attracting business tourists to Australia

The Gold Coast is expected to attract some $76 billion (AUD) into infrastructure that will support the booming business tourism hotspot.

In 2007, the Gold Coast saw 221,000 international and domestic delegates visit the city for meetings, which was a 23 per cent increase from 2006.

South-east of Queensland, the city is the most populous city in the state and the sixth most populous in the country and is known for its great climate and good surfing.

Ben Pole, Gold Coast tourism communications director, said: "The Gold Coast is unique in its offering - top class conference facilities and delegate entertainment - all within a stone's throw of Australia's most stunning beaches, hinterland, golf courses and theme parks."

Some of the new developments planned for the future include the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, which will double its existing size to 6,000 square metres and be completed this November.
