Trips to eastern Europe 'can cost less'

Trips to eastern Europe 'can cost less'

31 March 2008

Holidaymakers could save money by opting to travel to eastern Europe rather than countries nearer to the UK.

According to one travel firm, city breaks in places such as Prague and Tallinn can offer better value for money than western European cities such as Milan and Paris.

Tim Campbell, manager of Fregata Travel, said that eastern Europe was becoming increasingly popular as a holiday destination, particularly as many travellers are struggling to afford long-haul trips.

When asked why eastern Europe was experiencing a boom, he said: "A lot of it is to do with price I think, although it is getting more expensive at quite a rapid rate nowadays, its still a lot cheaper than most traditional destinations, such as Paris and Barcelona, Venice, Rome…It's a lot cheaper than that."

He added: "This applies to the hotels, the eating out and the entrance fees - the whole lot is going to cost you a bit less than it would for more traditional western European destinations."

Holidaymakers travelling to eastern Europe or other foreign destinations are urged to ensure they have adequate travel cover for their trip.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18529792-ADNFCR
