Tourists urged to head to sustainable attractions

31 March 2008

A conservation group has recommended that travellers visit sustainable tourists attractions in a bid to do their bit for the environment.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says that travelling to sustainable places is a positive move by holidaymakers as it reduces the threat to endangered species and the natural landscape.

Head of transport policy at the WWF Peter Lockley said that while people will always travel to foreign lands seeking adventure, more will start thinking about their carbon footprint and how they can reduce its impact.

"Clearly people are going to take foreign holidays - and in doing so, they should consider both the impact of how they travel there, and the impact of what they do when they get there."

Ways to reduce the environmental impact of a holiday include opting to travel by rail or ferry rather than taking an aeroplane.

However you plan to get to your destination, it is advised that you purchase travel insurance before you head off to ensure you are covered for any eventuality. ADNFCR-1337-ID-18529810-ADNFCR
