New York to celebrate wine month

25 March 2008

New York will become a haven for wine buffs in April as it celebrates wine month.

A glass of red or white will become an essential accessory for visitors to the Big Apple in April, as more than 160 restaurants and 200 stores throughout the state get into the swing of wine month.

Customers will be offered fine wines that have originated from about 90 different wineries.

Jim Trezise, president of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation, said: "April is the perfect month for celebrating New York wines. The 2007 vintage was the best in at least 15 years, and many of the wines will be unveiled for the public in April."

He added: "It's the onset of the wine country tourist season when consumers start planning their trips to New York's great wine regions."

People who have arranged their travel insurance and hopped on a flight to the US can visit a number of wine-producing regions, including the Finger Lakes and Long Island.

Long Island's wine region can be reached with a short ferry ride from New England, with wineries there specialising in Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and more.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18521551-ADNFCR
