'Last warning' given to Indonesian airline

'Last warning' given to Indonesian airline

11 March 2008

Indonesian airline Adam Air has been given a 'final warning' after being involved in an accident last week.

The carrier has suffered a number of mishaps recently, the latest of which saw it overshooting the runway at an airport on Batam island, leading to many people requiring their travel insurance after sustaining injuries.

Indonesia's transport minister has now warned that the operator will have one more chance to improve before punitive action is taken, Reuters reports.

Jusman Syafii Djamal warned that Adam Air could be placed in the government's 'third category', which gives airlines just three months to improve before their operations are suspended.

The company is currently in the second category, meaning that it meets minimum safety requirements but still has deficiencies.

"We are giving them a chance to improve. If there's no change, we will place them in the third category," Mr Djamal said.

Danke Drajat, Adam Air spokesman, stressed that the carrier was revamping its standard operating procedure and working on improving its levels of safety.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18504806-ADNFCR
