Cork flights disrupted by strike

Cork flights disrupted by strike

15 February 2008

The aftermath of a strike by Cork-based air traffic control employees has highlighted the importance of having adequate travel insurance.

Flights from the airport are expected to see huge delays tomorrow morning because there is not enough staff available to cover.

It is reported that a replacement worker who was due to fill the place of one of those on strike was brought in - but that his licence to work the shift, which is renewed every 90 days, had expired.

Passengers are being advised to check their flights well before they are due to take off, with many expected to be stranded at the airport.

More than 11 flights are expected to see disruptions due to "safety reasons", according to the Irish Aviation Authority.

Meanwhile, air traffic control workers in Paris called off a strike which has already caused huge delays for travellers.

CGT union workers agreed to return to their posts after four days following the resolution of a dispute over centralising air traffic control for Paris in one place.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18470520-ADNFCR
