Tourists injured in Egypt road accident

A group of tourists had to rely on their travel insurance to cover medical costs after being involved in a road accident in Egypt.

Forty-five tourists were on board a bus heading from the southern city of Qena to the coastal destination of Safaga on the evening of February 13th when the vehicle overturned, reports the Associated Press (AP).

Twenty-seven of the people involved in the accident were injured and taken to the Luxor international hospital, medical officials said.

Most were released the following morning but a 62-year-old German tourist reportedly remained in hospital.

There were some conflicting reports on the incident, however, with German tour operator REWE Touristik saying that there were 43 people on board the bus, 21 of whom were injured.

Road accidents are fairly common in Egypt, partly due to bad roads, making it particularly important for visitors to take out travel insurance.

According to the AP, police estimates suggest that some 6,000 people are killed in road accidents in Egypt every year.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18468715-ADNFCR
