French strike causes travel chaos

12 February 2008

France's air travel network will be severely disrupted this week as a result of a strike by air traffic controllers.

Industrial action on February 11th caused the cancellation of one in two flights to Orly airport south of Paris, according to France's civil aviation authority (DGAC).

Charles de Gaulle airport, France's busiest air hub which is located north of the city, suffered some delays but no cancellations, a spokeswoman for the DGAC told Reuters.

Passengers at both airports, which are owned and operated by Aeroports de Paris, are set to be relying heavily on their travel insurance this week as the strikes look set to continue over the coming days.

The action is in protest against plans to reorganise the air traffic control system around the French capital.

Charles de Gaulle airport has three terminals that handle more than 200,000 passengers every day and serves as the main base of national carrier Air France.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18463866-ADNFCR
