Pilot strike threatens Easter holidays
11 February 2008A new pilot strike from British Airways (BA) is threatening the Easter holiday period, reports claim.
Holidaymakers are being urged to make sure they have the right kind of travel insurance to cover themselves should anything go wrong, as BA pilots are currently in a row over plans to launch a new transatlantic service.
The pilots claim the move will mean a subsidiary will fly from the continent to the US, cutting salaries and terms of existing pilots in a bid to save money.
Some 3,200 pilots in the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) are now voting on whether to take industrial action.
A senior BALPA source told the Evening Standard: "We have got the vote for strike action. All the indications from representatives is that members are very worried about the future and are supporting the action."
The OpenSkies initiative, which is due to start in June, is set to offer luxury flights from continental Europe to America.
