Brits to take on Russia, Germany over sun beds

11 February 2008

British holidaymakers are now having to face another challenger for the best sun loungers and spots on the beach, as increasing numbers of Russians are heading to European resorts.

Britons are used to having to deal with the stereotypical German holidaymaker, who often get up at the crack of dawn to leave their towels on the best sun loungers and queue up early for breakfast.

However, there is now the added challenge of thousands of Russian holidaymakers for lounger-supremacy, according to lastminute.com.

The website claims that Russian holidaymakers are much more willing to pay hotel staff to reserve them the best sun beds, which adds a new dimension to the age-old battle.

And the firm's managing director John Bevan said: "The battle for Europe's sun beds will be more intense than ever this summer as the Russians establish themselves as the most prominent outbound tourism market in Europe.

"Holidaying Brits will have to have their sun bed strategy finalised before departing if they want to come back with a tan."

And Britons are also urged to make sure they get adequate travel insurance before their trip, to make sure they are also covered should they lose more than just a sun bed while away.
