Plane makes emergency landing at Leeds

04 February 2008

A plane carrying more than 100 people was forced to make an emergency landing at Leeds Bradford airport.

The pilot of the Austrian Airlines flight radioed ahead to the airport reporting an engine problem, prompting a state of full emergency.

After the problem was reported, the Fokker 100 jet was able to land safely at Leeds Bradford.

None of the passengers on board had to rely on their travel insurance to cover medical costs following the incident.

A West Yorkshire police spokesman said: "The pilot indicated that he was going to be making an emergency landing at speed.

"The aircraft had 103 people on board but thankfully the aircraft made a safe landing and no-one was injured."

A spokeswoman for the airport said that the right engine was the cause of the problem and had been declared 'idle' by the flight crew.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18453337-ADNFCR
