Portuguese airline warns of strike action
30 January 2008People looking forward to a trip to Portugal at the beginning of February have been warned that the country's aviation network could be vulnerable to disruption as a result of strike action.
Airline TAP Portugal said that its head office in Lisbon was contacted on January 30th by the Portuguese Airport Ground Handlers Union and advised that the group's members plan to take industrial action.
The scheduled dates for the strikes are February 1st to 4th inclusive.
TAP Portugal said that, if such action takes place, it will have a "serious effect" on airline services to and from the Iberian country.
The airline advised its customers to rebook flights for another date or apply for a refund if ticketed travelling dates fall within the dates proposed for the strikes.
If travellers decide they want to fly during the affected time period, they should expect "major delays or cancellation", TAP Portugal said, potentially leaving many people relying on their travel insurance.
TAP Portugal is one of the European country's major airlines, operating a network of flights to international destinations including London, Los Angeles, Paris, Johannesburg and Stockholm.
