Travel insurance 'extra important for long-haul'

Travel insurance is particularly important for people embarking on long-haul holidays, a tour operator has claimed.

According to STA Travel, long-haul trips and adventure holidays always carry more risk than conventional breaks.

"These kinds of trips tend to be more expensive than a weekend jaunt to Europe, therefore more costly to cancel if necessary," a spokeswoman for the company said.

"Long-haul trips also mean more expensive repatriation costs if the passenger has to be flown back to the UK."

The STA Travel representative also claimed that travel insurance is becoming increasingly important considering the changing habits of modern holidaymakers.

As excursions such as diving holidays and skiing trips become more popular, travellers should take into account issues such as the cost of mountain rescue or having to use a decompression tank.

"[This] must be taken into account when selecting an insurance policy to cover this type of trip," the STA Travel spokeswoman said.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18441928-ADNFCR
