Threat against US aviation 'still high'
25 January 2008America's homeland security secretary has claimed that there is still a high threat to the US aviation network.
Michael Chertoff claimed that terrorists still see air travel as a target and said that the US is likely to keep a high threat designation for the airline industry, indicating that travel insurance is an important concern for anyone travelling to America.
Speaking to Reuters, the politician referred to events including a British plot to blow up transatlantic flights using liquid explosives in 2006 and a foiled attack on Glasgow airport last year.
"We've seen again and again interest in this sector," he said.
"People think of aviation not only in terms of the aircraft but the whole infrastructure including the airports."
America's department of homeland security was created in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centre.
