Hundreds delayed in Sofia
14 January 2008Hundreds of people have been delayed in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia following bad weather conditions, reports claim.
Fog caused the cancellation of a number of flights, meaning that many passengers had to stay overnight at the airport, according to Focus News Agency.
However, some airlines were able to warn their passengers in advance of the cancellations, meaning that many people would have had time to make emergency hotel bookings, a cost that would have been covered by travel insurance.
There were at least nine departures cancelled over the weekend beginning January 11th, including services to Athens, Vienna and Frankfurt.
Sofia is located in the west of Bulgaria, close to the country's border with Serbia.
Its location means that its airport is a popular point of travel for people heading to the skiing destinations of Bansko and Dobrinishte.
