'More problems' for US air travel in 2008
02 January 2008People going on beach holidays or skiing trips to the US this year will be in need of travel insurance as the airline industry will continue to experience problems, it has been predicted.
According to the Air Travellers Association (ATA), one of the major issues facing passengers in 2008 will be delayed flights.
The association claimed that delays to air services are a political problem stemming from the US government's failure to modernise the air traffic control system.
There were a number of near-collisions at US airports in 2007 and this will continue to be a problem this year, according to the ATA, as a result of the rising number of aircraft on the ground and in the air, among other factors.
Yet another issue for travellers to consider could be airline service problems, which are expected to trouble carriers that are in dispute with unions representing their pilots, mechanics and flight attendants.
On a less negative note, the ATA looked forward to the impending competition between the Airbus A380 'superjumbo' and the Boeing 787 'dreamliner', which is set to heat up in the near future.
