A warning has been issued that emphasises the importance of travel insurance for skiing holidays in Bulgaria.

The country's Mountain Rescue Service told Focus News Agency that weather in Bulgaria's mountain areas is not favourable for tourism.

Strong winds, heavy cloud and thick fog have been recorded and temperatures are around zero, the rescue service said.

While ski tracks have been processed and there are conditions for winter sports in mountain resorts, visitors were warned of the potential risk posed by the weather conditions.

Travel insurance is an important element of skiing holidays, owing to the increased danger of sustaining injury on such trips and the medical costs that could result from any accidents.

Bulgaria has increased in popularity as a skiing destination in recent years, with the resorts of Bansko and Dobrinishte among the country's most popular.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18416239-ADNFCR
