Five British football supporters were in need of medical care in Rome this week after being assaulted before Manchester United's Champions League match against Roma.

The individuals, one of whom was a 16-year-old boy, were stabbed on their way to the game at the Italian capital's Stadio Olimpico on December 12th.

While all five of the football fans were in need of travel insurance to cover the cost of their medical care, none of the injuries sustained were thought to be life-threatening.

There has been animosity between supporters of Manchester United and Roma since April this year, when there were violent clashes as the two sides faced each other at the Champions League quarter-final stage.

The Foreign Office issued warnings ahead of the game to Brits who were planning to travel to Rome, which is one of the most dangerous places in Europe for visiting fans owing to groups of violent hardcore supporters.

Approximately 50 people were involved in clashes before and after the game, which led to the arrests of six British nationals.ADNFCR-1337-ID-18395814-ADNFCR
