Micro lighting

Micro lighting is an adventurous way to discover vast landscapes, stratospheric wonders, and even wildlife from a bird's eye view. It is an economical and very fun way to fly. But don't you get too excited too fast - before boarding a micro light, make sure you have your travel insurance. Micro lighting is a very high-risk sport -- you are exposed to very serious injuries, which may become very expensive to treat.

Micro lighting is a single- to two-seater aviation vehicle that has less than 5 US gallon fuel capacity. It is a lightweight and slow-flying aeroplane, making it a relatively cheaper aircraft that you can fly on your own or with a guide. In some countries such as the United States, license or certificate for flying micro lights are not required, but pilot training is highly advised. The vehicle is subject to minimal regulation, so it does not have a good reputation when it comes to safety. Micro light manufacturers claim that their designs have already matured through the years, though, so pilot error is now the main reason for accidents.

Most of the accidents caused by micro lighting happen during take off or landing. Bad weather and poor vision are also considerable factors. The micro light may also collide with power lines, trees, and other land objects; this is mostly due to inexperience and lack of knowledge regarding flying areas.

Micro lighting is considered a Grade 4 risk sport, which means it poses a high chance for injury. This should not keep you from pursuing it, though - just make sure that you are covered by sports travel insurance so you can get high-quality, paid-for medical attention should you incur a micro lighting accident.
