If you're into adventure sports, you may want to try jet skiing over the holidays. One of the most popular water sports in recent years, jet skiing involves traveling over water in a small personal water craft (PWC). If you're vacationing in a foreign country, it's a great way to explore the scenery and enjoy the outdoors, all while learning a new craft. Jet skiing is a bit risky, however, so it's best to have your travel insurance in place if you want to try it out.
Collisions are fairly common in jet skiing, especially in crowded areas. These can result in serious injuries such as head trauma, broken bones, concussions, and deep gashes. When driving in saltwater, the salt and wind can irritate the skin and eyes and sometimes cause extreme dryness. Such injuries can cost a lot to treat, especially if you're in a foreign country and are not covered by insurance.
Jet skiing is widely offered in beach and coastal areas. Most of them are open to tourists and rent out jet skis and waverunners. To stay safe, avoid crowded areas and wear protective equipment such as goggles, gloves, footwear, and a wetsuit. Make sure there are lifejackets on board. If you're a beginner, consider taking a boating and safety course before jet skiing alone.
Jet skiing has a risk rating of Grade 2. That means it has medium risk of injury. We strongly recommend securing travel insurance before your trip if you want to try it out during your vacation, so that you can better enjoy the sport.
