Cycling

Cycling is a great way to enjoy scenic places while traveling, especially on mountain and country sides in Germany and Denmark. Just be sure to get sports travel insurance before going on a cycling adventure so you can get quality medical care at no cost should any untoward incident occur.

Regular cycling generally does not cause traumatic injuries, but it can cause severe bruises, which account for around 30% of cycling-related injuries in hospitals. This was followed by fractures (20%), abrasions, and lacerations. These injuries are often caused by collision with a motor vehicle, which can be fatal especially when the cyclist is not wearing a helmet.

You also risk incurring other less common but also serious injuries when cycling. With prolonged stay in the bike, your perineum and buttocks can suffer strain and discomfort. The overuse of knees for pedaling can cause inflammation of your kneecap, which is very painful. The muscles on the lower part of your leg can also be damaged because of the pressure. Moreover, the ligaments of your hands can get damaged if you hold the handlebars improperly for a long time. Some studies have even shown that nerve endings can be affected by compression of body parts to different places in the bike. Some of these injuries can become very serious and may require surgery or evacuation from a remote area. Without travel insurance, these treatments can be very costly.

Cycling is a Grade 1 risk activity, with little chances of incurring fatal injuries. Still, avail of a travel insurance to have peace of mind - this way, you can truly enjoy your cycling adventure.
