Cricket

Cricket is a popular sport, especially in certain parts of Europe. And while it is relatively safe as it is a non-contact sport, cricket still poses risks of injuries that may require medication, hospitalization, and even therapy. If you are planning to go on a cricket holiday, is still best to get sports travel insurance in advance.

According to various studies, the fingers are the most vulnerable part of the body in cricket. A wrong turn of the bat or an unfortunate collision with the cricket ball (which is made of solid cork covered in leather) can cause broken fingers or concussions. You may require costly orthopedic care when this happens.

Your head, body, and feet can also be struck by the cricket ball, resulting to a range of injuries including head trauma, fractures in different body parts (e.g. arms, hands, toes), soft-tissue injuries (in the abdomen, testicles, thorax, upper arm and thigh), and splenic rupture. Injuries on the lower limb (especially muscle strain and swelling of the tendon called tendinitis) are also quite common, accounting for roughly 50% of all injuries incurred by cricket players. Lower limb injuries are caused by constant running around the field. Sometimes, cricket injuries require surgical attention. Without travel insurance, the bills may pile up.

Cricket is considered a Grade 1 risk sport. If you want to protect yourself from expensive medical bills, avail of sports travel insurance before playing the game.
