Getting there
Delta, US Air, American, Continental and United Airlines all fly to and from Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte airports. Midway Airlines, the most extensive airline in the South of the US, offers flights to Raleigh from cities all around the region. Amtrak trains go through Raleigh on their New York-Miami run and through Charlotte on their New York-Washington DC-New Orleans route. Greyhound buses also service the major and minor towns across the state, with links to a national network.
I-95 cuts through the state north to south from Virginia to South Carolina and beyond, all the way up to Boston and down to Miami. You can also take I-85 from either of these states, and I-27 and I-77 both come up from South Carolina as well. From Tennessee, the main road is I-40.
Safety
Visitors should be careful when visiting wilderness regions like the Great Smoky Mountains and more isolated stretches of coastline. Caution is also advised in some areas of Charlotte too, especially at night. Due to the prohibitive costs of healthcare in America, it is strongly advised that visitors take out travel insurance.
