Getting there
Albuquerque International Airport is a small airport by international standards, but is served by major US airlines. Other airports are at Alamogordo, Farmington, Ruidoso, Santa Fe and Taos. Amtrak has services east and west, running through Albuquerque. Greyhound has services from Albuquerque to various state-wide destinations, and shuttles also depart from the airport to Santa Fe, Taos, Red River and Angel Fire.
Interstate highway I-25 runs north-south through the state, connecting Santa Fe to Albuquerque and Los Cruces in the south. I-40 runs from Barstow in California, through Albuquerque, and on to Little Rock (Arkansas); while I-10 in the south runs from Las Cruces, west through Phoenix and on to LA.
Safety
Long distance driving places you at greater risk of having an accident, and skiing is also potentially dangerous. Be on alert in New Mexico’s larger cities for pickpockets and never leave your car parked on a city street at night. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for you and your family when visiting New Mexico.
