Getting there
Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport is a very busy airport, receiving flights from 70 national and international destinations, while Reno-Tahoe International Airport is not as busy, but has daily service to most major airport hubs in the US. The Chicago to San Francisco Amtrak service (California Zephyr) runs through Las Vegas, as well as Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado and Utah.
The state’s principal highways and interstates allow easy travel between major destinations as well as shorter trips to locations outside of major cities. There are two main interstates running through Nevada. I-80 runs from San Francisco, through Reno, Salt Lake City (Utah), and on to Newark (New Jersey); while I-15 originates in San Diego, runs through Las Vegas and Salt Lake City and up to the Canadian border.
Safety
Always try to park your car off the streets at night, especially in Vegas and Reno, and take regular breaks when driving long distances. It goes without saying that pickpockets are prevalent in the big tourist cities, so try to remain vigilant at all times. Medical care in the US is very expensive. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for you and your family.
