Getting There
Minneapolis St Paul International Airport is served by some international carriers and almost all national carriers, offering direct flights around the US and to London, Amsterdam, Rome and Tokyo. Amtrak trains run though the Twin Cities and on to the east coast, as well as to the west coast.
Three major interstate highways serve Minnesota: I-94 runs east-west, from North Dakota, through the Twin Cities, through Chicago and on to New York; I-90 runs along the south of the state from Wisconsin all the way to Seattle in Washington; and I-35 runs north-south, from Duluth, through the Twin Cities and all the way to the Mexican border, south of San Antonio.
Safety
Driving is the best way to get around Minnesota, but always try to remain alert to possible dangers. Take regular breaks (every two hours) on long journeys and keep the car off city streets at night. Water sports are also potentially dangerous and travellers should take note that US medical care is very expensive. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for you and your family.
Weather in Minnesota
Along with the heat of the summer, the humidity becomes very high. It is advisable to bring your swimwear to take advantage of the beaches. Autumn is a lovely time to visit, the air becomes crisp and the fall colours are spectacular.
