Information on Sardinias key attractions

Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, is quite appealing, boasting an interesting medieval section and a beautiful beach area. The Archaeological Museum contains a unique collection of Nuraghic statuettes. The city walls contain two Pisan towers which look down over the port. The ruins of the amphitheatre are also quite impressive.

Forty kilometres away is Nora, is the most complete ancient site on the island. Alternatively, the Spanish-influenced town of Iglésias is an attractive inland destination, especially during its colourful Easter festivities.

The glorious and somewhat unspoilt Costa Verde coastline makes for a lovely daytrip. Also worth seeing are the beaches and grottoes around the tourist enclave of Alghero, which has a friendly atmosphere and Spanish character, resulting from a long history of Catalan colonisation.

Out and about

There are a plethora of places to explore on Sardinia, including secluded bays and beaches, as well as a rugged interior. The Costa Smeralda is Sardinias most famous resort area and is quite luxurious.

The island has stunning coasts, all worth visiting. Spend some time at the archipelago of La Maddalena; the beaches of Capo Testa at Santa Teresa; the Emerald Coast; or Golfo Aranci and Olbia. Nature lovers will be equally impressed with the splendid dunes of Pistis at Torre die Corsari and of Piscinas at Ingurtosu (Arbus); as well as the amazing limestone cliffs of the Iglesiente.

Leisure options

Enjoying both French and Italian, and even Spanish and Moorish influences, Sardinia is perfect for hiking, sailing or simply relaxing on the beach. Hiring a car to admire the spectacular coastal scenery is also rewarding.

Safety

Always be alert to pickpockets, especially in the high season. Driving and water sports are potentially dangerous activities and visitors in an unfamiliar environment are more susceptible to having an accident. When travelling to Sardinia, we strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for you and your family.

Weather in Sardinia
