click here for a single trip travel insurance uk quotation Information on Casablanca with single trip travel insurance from Essential TravelAlthough those expecting the fairytale destination implied by the Humphrey Bogart movie might be disappointed, Casablanca is nevertheless an atmospheric city that is undoubtedly worthy of a visit. Rapid development has led to an element of shadiness creeping into the city, with increases in crime and prostitution, but Casablanca is still an interesting mix of lively urban jungle, imposing Moorish architecture and cultural attractions.Key AttractionsCasablanca was in a state of deterioration until the French remodelled it to become the progressive centre it is today, characterised by wide avenues, Mauresque (Moorish) civic structures and modern skyscrapers. The medina, or old town, is one of the more interesting sections of the city, and it is here that visitors will find Casablanca’s main attraction, the Hassan II Mosque. This ornately detailed structure with its 200-metre minaret is the world’s third-largest religious monument, perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.Other attractions in the city include the impressive harbour, the beating heart of the city’s economy, and the Square of Mohammed V - the plaza that forms Casablanca’s social centre. Architecture buffs will appreciate the stately city hall, while the Museum of Moroccan Judaism provides the opportunity for an interesting day excursion. Out and AboutJust 20kms north of the city centre is the 19-hole golf course known as the Golf of Mohammedia, and also nearby is the 9-hole Royal Golf of Anfa, offering enthusiasts of the sport superb opportunities for play in charming surroundings. Morocco’s capital city, Rabat, with numerous examples of splendid architecture and richly embroidered with historical detail, is within driving distance of Casablanca.Leisure OptionsBeaches stretch northwards from Casablanca to Mohammedia and south to El Jadida, affording excellent opportunities for sunbathing, swimming, waterskiing, windsurfing and sailing. Shopping opportunities abound in Casablanca’s malls and in the Houbous, where you can pick up a good selection of traditional Moroccan crafts and other goods.SafetyAuthorities have been on high alert since a series of bombings in 2003, a serious threat of terrorist activity nevertheless exists in Casablanca, and visitors should be particularly careful when visiting prominent public places. The city also has a moderate to high rate of crime, and tourists are viewed as soft targets for muggings, thefts, assaults and pickpocketing. Food and water-borne diseases are an additional risk to foreigners and when you are travelling to Morocco, we strongly recommend you take out travel insurance.Weather in CasablancaThe cooler months of October to April are the most popular amongst visitors as it is pleasantly warm during the day and cool at night. The temperature is around 30C during the day, dropping to 15C at night. If you want to visit during the ski season it does get very cold in the hill areas.'
