The city is best known for its production of wine and culinary delights. Information on Trevisos key attractionsThose searching for historical sights should head to the gigantic Romanesque-Gothic San Nicolo, an ornate structure with a magnificent vaulted ceiling and late 14th century frescoes by Tomaso da Modena. Nearby is the Episcopal Seminary, home to 40 unique portraits of Dominican monks. Treviso is famous for its wrought iron and copper utensils. On via Palestro, the store Prior is the best place to shop for such treasures. Stretching across via Perscheria, is the fragrant open-air market, where you can buy the towns home grown cherries. Out and aboutThe wine routes of Treviso should not be missed when in this scenic area of Italy. The foothills of the Dolomites near Treviso are known for producing fine wines. Travel along the two highways known as the Strade dei Vini del Piave for a view of the nearby Piave River. The canal city of Venice is 20kms to the south of Treviso. Popular pastimes here include strolling around the tangle of alleyways and bridges, before stopping off for an espresso or gelato. Gondola rides are a great (yet expensive) way to see the city from the water, and a visit during the famous Carnivale time is most exciting. Belluno is a popular ski resort to the north of Treviso. Backed by the ragged peaks of the Dolomites, Belluno also offers plenty of summer hiking trails. The Piazza dei Mercanti and Piazza dei Martiri have quaint cafés and bars. Leisure optionsTreviso boast some spectacular Italian cuisine, the best of which can be found at El Toule da Alfredo, on via Collalto 26. This restuarant chain is known throughout Italy for its delicious food and desserts, such as sorbets made with local fruit. SafetyTreviso is a city with a constant stream of visitors who inevitably attract petty thieves. Leave your valuables in safe keeping at your hotel, but also make sure you have travel insurance in case anything untoward should happen. Weather in TrevisoTreviso is located in the north east and the climate changed dramatically throughout the year. In the winter the temperature can drop below freezing and in the summer it can soar to 35C. It can become very humid in the height of summer so the best time to travel to Treviso would be in April/May or in early September. ' ' |
